Corylus avellana L. cv. ‘Tombul’ genome project Hazelnuts are a highly valued food product worldwide, but production is threatened by emerging disease outbreaks and climate change, and limited genetic information is available for hazel species. We present a ~98% complete assembly of the European hazel genome, developed for the commercially important Turkish cultivar ‘Tombul’.The Tombul genome was generated using a hybrid approach; Illumina whole genome shotgun sequences & Oxford Nanopore Technologies MinION long reads were assembled de novo using MaSurCA 3.2. Contigs from this assembly were ordered into chromosome-sized scaffolds through chromosome conformational capture sequencing (Dovetail Genomics Chicago & HiC).
